Premiering Wednesday on NBC (9 pm et/pt), Mr. Robinson features Craig Robinson (The Office) as a struggling musician who also makes ends meet as a substitute high school music teacher. The show features a plethora of skilled TV vets, including Peri Gilpin (Frasier) as the high school principal and Spencer Grammer as a math teacher and part-time stripper.
The naive assumption is that since she’s the daughter of Kelsey Grammer, an acting life would come relatively easy for Spencer Grammer. Though she toplined her own hit series (Greek), the actress isn’t swimming in nepotism, as she’s had to earn her way through the acting ranks.
“That is what set the tone of Mr. Robinson so well I think,” says the actress, who is also featured in the Adult Swim series Rick and Morty. “It’s because we’ve all been working very hard in this industry for a long time. I’m grateful that I get to be shooting live in front of a studio audience and everyone on the show like Meagan Good, Asif Ali, and Craig Robinson, – we all came from backgrounds where we worked hard to get where we are. I know my dad is Kelsey Grammer but I still had to work hard to get here.”
Click on the media bar to hear Grammer talk about visiting the set of Frasier during her teenage years, and Gilpin adds that the actress is a “chip off the old block.”
