In Z for Zachariah, Chiwetel Ejiofor is John Loomis, an understandably paranoid scientist who slowly builds a bond with the woman (Margot Robbie) who saved his life. Believing they are the only two people living on Earth, their world is thrown for a loop when a stranger (Chris Pine) walks into their life.
“Z for Zachariah really deals with big ideas in an intimate way, and I love that,” says Ejiofor, who will also be seen this year opposite Julia Roberts in Secret In Their Eyes and in the Matt Damon headlined The Martian. “It really does deal with the first principles – normalizing relations between men and women, the ideas of government and systems of justice. Things that would have to creep back into any kind of conversation if that one person meets another person.”
In the following “Find Your Seen” segment below, Chiwetel Ejiofor talks about seeing his first name in an entirely different way while traveling from Calabar to Lagos, Nigeria during production of the 2013 film Half of a Yellow Sun. If you thought “Chiwetel” was a rare name, think again:
Z for Zachariah is now playing in select theaters. Secret in their Eyes opens nationwide November 20.
