‘True Romance’ Live Read at the Ace Hotel

True Romance Live Read

Jason Reitman’s monthly live reads have become one of the hottest tickets in town.  They started 4 years ago with a live read of The Breakfast Club with Jennifer Garner, James Van Der Beek, Mindy Kaling, Patton Oswald, and Aaron Paul reading the parts of the detained students.  Since then, Reitman has taken on over two dozen readings, including Ghostbusters, Raising Arizona, and Princess Bride.  He directed gender-swapped versions of Glengarry Glen Ross and American Pie, and an all-black cast for Reservoir Dogs.  Quentin Tarantino famously guest-directed a live read of The Hateful Eight when the script leaked and he was planning on dropping the film in retaliation.  Lucky for us, he changed his mind.

Last December Reitman took the live read series even further with a reading of The Empire Strikes Back which was held at the United Artists Theater at the Ace Hotel to hold the larger crowd.  The live read featured Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as Luke Skywalker and Ellen Page (Juno, Inception) taking on the role of Han Solo.  Surprise guest Mark Hamill played Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Emperor.

This year, Reitman is once again holding an extra special December live read at the United Artists Theater at the Ace Hotel.  This time the script is Tarantino’s True Romance.  Patricia Arquette and Christian Slater will be reprising their original roles from the film.  So far, we know that Mae Whitman (Arrested Development,) Jon Favreau (Entourage, Chef,) Mark and Jay Duplass, Kevin Pollak (The Usual Suspects, Casino,) and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man) will be in the cast, and who knows what surprises Reitman has in store?

Tickets, which range in price from $50 to $125, are still available.  A limited number of $25 tickets are available with the password: VIRGIL.
