Dashboard Confessional And The All-American Rejects Get Mutual Coverage

Bands and artists covering each other’s songs is old hat but never grow tiresome if done right. The All-American Rejects and Dashboard Confessional have traversed this well worn path but with a solid (and creatively inspired purpose). For one, they are on summer tour together and  offering up their respective interpretations is simply perfect timing. Secondly, they did not “move along” (pardon the pun) and offer up a by the numbers rendition of these two heralded song. Details after the jump!

The All-American Rejects’ “Move Along” is still as catchy and anthemic as ever, and Chris Carrabba and crew don’t veer completely south of the original which in my opinion is a good thing. Carrabba’s voice, and maybe it’s because of the group’s emo rock aesthetic, has yearning ache that, even amidst the energetic barrage of “Move Along,” comes through. On the flip side, attempting to reach the emotional heights of Dashboard Confessional’s “Hands Down” is a fool’s game, and The All-American Rejects had the perfect approach to the song.

“’Hands Down’ is an open-hearted story of young love. In the original recording, the vocal performance is something that carries you through that tale of pure discovery,” said Tyson Ritter to Consequence of Sound. ”Vocally, my immediate intention was to play the opposite. For the musical canvas, we wanted to take all the candy away from this song and feed it nothing but opiates, leaving you feeling as if the instrumentation itself was the nerves the lyrics were expressing.”
