Six-time Oscar nominated composer/conductor Lalo Schifrin (Mission: Impossible, Dirty Harry) will celebrate his 85th birthday with a special concert that spotlights and honors his music. The October 7 event, which will be held at the Alex Theatre (Glendale, Ca), is being presented by Musicians at Play Foundation and AFM Local 47’s Music Fund of Los Angeles in association with Varese Sarabande. Conducted by Chris Walden with Robert Townson serving as the host, the Lalo Schifrin celebration will also feature Oscar winning composer Michael Giacchino (UP, Lost), and Oscar winning songwriters Alan and Marilyn Bergman (“Windmills of Your Mind,” “The Way We Were.”
With over 100 film credits to his name, Schifrin served as the composer of Bullitt, The Cincinnati Kid, Cool Hand Luke, and Rush Hour (a personal fave is his funk infused score for Pretty Maids All In A Row.
“Lalo is one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, and when it comes to film music he has always been the epitome of cool at the movies,” says Townson.
