Take out the money, hype, and the big names and boxing is a sport that also resonates on so many levels. For some, it’s the symbolic nature of the underdog story rendered in cinema (Rocky) that makes it a constant draw. In the video below, Jon Seda (Chicago P.D., Treme) discusses his lifelong passion for boxing.
Jon Seda, a former amateur boxer with a 21-1 record, was a runner-up in the New Jersey Golden Gloves competition before embarking on an acting career (one of his first roles was the boxing flick Gladiator).
“When you’re in the ring it’s like giving a canvas to a painter and say ‘okay here’s your canvas, here’s your paint . . . now paint me something beautiful.,'” said Seda. “For a boxer, that’s the ‘sweet science’ – going in there and creating something beautiful in the ring.”
The full video of Seda discussing the “sweet science” of boxing is below (Chicago P.D. co-star Tracy Spiridakos is also in the clip):
Seda, who starred last season in Chicago Justice, returns to the Chicago P.D. family with the show’s fifth season premiere on Wednesday, September 27 (NBC, 10/9c).
