I’ve just finished Wonder and was pleasantly surprised at its multi-layered narrative. The story’s biggest wow moment, at least from me, is Izabela Vidovic’s performance as Via (short for Oliva), the caring older sister of Auggie (Jacob Tremblay). Check out the jump below for Vidovic audio as well as details on how you can support her future project Severed Silence!
During the Wonder press conference, Vidovic discussed how she was able to relate to Via’s own experiences as a student:
“Well I’m also in high school – currently I’m a junior. My freshman year was my most difficult year in school and Via is also entering high school in the movie. That’s where we find her. I actually had very similar experiences as she did. I think a lot of high schoolers find that they lose friends in school when they enter and they go through their own personal transformations. So I found that was very relatable for me. I was able to channel into that.”

***One of the reasons why I’m posting this out of the blue is Vidovic’s “Our Town” monologue flooded my puffy face with tears. Wonder is actually inspiring me to read Thornton Wilder’s play (the stage productions is actually viewable on YouTube) as well as do a deeper dive into Vidovic’s previous work. Wonder, which has amassed over $100 million at the domestic box office, has also garnered 3 Critics Choice nominations (Adapted Screenplay, Young Performer, and Makeup). Though the most well known stars in the feature are Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, and Jacob Tremblay, the rest of the ensemble get their respective moments to shine.
Vidovic is a natural talent and it’ll be interesting to see how she does in the horror/thriller genre. With 97% funded (as of this post), Severed Silence also looks like it’s headed in the right direction. Are you a fan of Wonder and did you also dig Vidovic’s work as Via? What are your thoughts, if any, on Our Town? Feel free to comment!!
