My initial L.A. Rams concern this week was the assurance that Robert Woods would be healthy enough to start on my fantasy playoffs team. Thankfully there are less self-centered and more generous actions going on in the football universe thanks to Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth. Details on his magnanimous gesture is below!
To celebrate his 36th birthday, the three-time Pro Bowler purchased over 550 bikes and helmets for the kids at Grape Street Elementary in Watts, Ca. In an interview w/ Los Angeles Times reporter Lindsey Thiry, Andrew Whitworth explained why he paid for all these gifts himself:
“It lets the kids know you’re not just saying something just because you’re told to be there that day and you’re wearing a Rams jersey or a Bengals jersey or whatever jersey it is. It’s actually what you believe in – you’re putting your stamp on it. To me, that’s what means the most to them is to know that it’s real. I think that’s what I want – it’s to be authentic and real to them.”
It’s an absolute joy watching the kids hear their news about their new Christmas gifts as Whitworth says “you can be excited.”

Whitworth’s generosity is well documented, and it’s great to know a bunch of students will get from Point A to Point B with a football player who’s determined to make a difference outside the lines.
