‘The Lodgers’ Review: A Gothic Infused Tale With A Ton of Bite

The Lodgers
Most of my reviews and Blu-ray coverage will be housed on Deepest Dream, but I’ll be spotlighting flicks that are near and dear to my heart with this blog. The Lodgers hits theaters and digital today, and though it’s filled with relatively unknown actors, don’t let the pedigree fool you – this one’s a doozy. Gothic thriller/haunted mansion fans should eat this one up, and nearly 12 hours later I’m still buzzing from the experience.

Acting Seen: Vicky Krieps Steals The Show In ‘Phantom Thread’

Phantom Thread - Vicky Krieps
There are many reasons to catch Phantom Thread at your local cineplex. Whether it’s a continuing passion to watch films that were shot on actual film or following the creative journeys of Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day Lewis, Phantom Thread is a value added experience. That being said, it’s Vicky Krieps who steals the show . . .

‘Red Sparrow’ Review: This Little Bird Fails To Fly

Red Sparrow
Reviewers were given a very task with Red Sparrow, as we’re not allowed to reveal major plot points with this Jennifer Lawrence headlined feature. Running at 139 minutes minutes, the flick ambitiously attempts to cram a ton of genres into the narrative and, for the most part, fails.

Review: ‘Entanglement’ (Thomas Middleditch, Jess Weixler)

Entanglement
One of my hopes this month is that a ton of more eyes get to see Entanglement, a first rate comedy-drama directed by Jason James. Shooting a comedy centering on serious matters, along with a tinge of magic realism, is a heady feat. Thanks to engaging work from Thomas Middleditch and Jess Weixler, the movie absolutely hits the mark.

‘Joywave’ Hits ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ (2/8) With ‘Doubt’

Joywave
As far as musical ear candy goes, Joywave’s “Doubt” is a tune I’ll play over and over again for my daily mix of neurosis (and catharsis). The outfit plays that standout tune February 8 on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and it’s a performance you shouldn’t miss . . .
