Three time Grammy nominated outfit Hoobastank have announced their sixth album Push Pull comes out May 25 via Napalm Records. Their sixth studio album is the long awaited follow-up to 2012’s first rate effort Fight or Flight.
With the new album, the group collaborated with producer Matt Wallace (Faith No More, Maroon 5, Deftones) and the first track off the album (“More Beautiful”) suggests Push Pull will have its share of pop rock flourishes. Hoobastank’s love for the alternative rock from the 80s will also find a place in the album with their take on the Tears for Fears classic “Head Over Heels.”
“We waited until we had enough material to start recording an album,” said guitarist/keyboardist Dan Estrin. “There were always plenty of demos floating back and forth; some of them I played for Matt (Wallace) even before the rest of the band heard them.
The track listing for Push Pull is as follows:
- Don’t Look Away
- Push Pull
- More Beautiful
- Head Over Heels
- True Believer
- Just Let Go (Who Cares If We Fall)
- Better Left Unsaid
- We Don’t Need The World
- Buzkill (Before You Say Goodbye)
- Fallen Star
- There Will Never Be Another
Fight or Flight was a creative high point for Hoobastank (the group’s best known song is “The Reason), as that album featured a solid mix of catchy rock tunes (“This Is Gonna Hurt” and “No Win Situation”) and introspective, melodic driven songs (“Sing What You Can’t Say,” “Slow Down”).
“More Beautiful” didn’t wow me right out of the gate, but the great thing is that it’s a completely different sound and approach from their last album, and I’m excited to see if Push Pull is an entirely different musical direction for the band. Push Pull is now available for pre-order.
